ABOUT THE MISSIONARIES OF THE POOR

The Missionaries of the Poor (M.O.P.) is an international monastic order of Brothers dedicated to "Joyful Service with Christ on the Cross" to serve the poorest of the poor. The order was started in 1981 by Father Richard Ho Lung and has now grown to over 500 brothers around the world.

We have free missions around the globe.  Our main home is in Kingston, Jamaica, where we maintain six mission homes.  The Brothers also serve the Lord with their acts of mercy in Jamaica (Kingston), India (Andhra Pradesh & Orissa), the Philippines (Naga City & Cebu), Haiti (Cap-Haitien), Uganda (Kampala), Kenya (Nairobi) and the United States (Monroe, NC).  A new mission in Indonesia is currently being established.

We do have now The Missionaries of the Poor Sisterswith us, initiated as "pious union" on 27th of March 2011 in Kingston, Jamaica under the inspiration and guidance of the Father Founder and Superior General, Very Rev. Fr. Richard Ho Lung M.O.P.

We welcome lay volunteers to come and join us in our work and welcome all to join our spirituality and prayer life.  Our mission is to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ primarily by works of mercy and secondarily through liturgy, preaching, music, teaching and sacraments.

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CURRENT PROJECTS

At this time, we ask for your special help with two great projects in Kingston, Jamaica.  First, construction continues on the Holy Innocents Center, which will provide shelter and care for women and their babies, that lives may be saved in the face of the growing problem of abortion.  Second, we are working to purchase and renovate a building on East Street in Kingston, sitting right outside the walls of our Prince of Peace Monastery.  This East Street Property will provide additional lodging for new missionaries arriving for formation and service from around the world, lodging for visitors and volunteer who help us in our work and as a care center for the poor in our neighborhood.  Please consider making a gift to the Lord's work.  "He that lends to the poor lends to the Lord."
