Re: On the update of the Mission

Dear Father and Brothers.

Greetings in Christ!

We continue to give thanks to the Lord for all His continual blessings and graces that he bestows on us so as to continue to love and serve Him among the poorest of the poor.
Please find below the update of our Mission here in Cebu.

a) BROTHERS: As earlier informed, we sent the brothers to Naga for their further formation while preparing for the new candidates. Compared to the previous year, this year we only had 22 candidates for the come and see program. Hence, all in all we are 30.

b) RESIDENTS: We have 40 physically handicapped Children and 30 elderly men. The home for the children can hold at least 60 children so we are accepting more but of course observing the criteria of the being the least among our brothers and sisters. With regards to the men, we cannot take in anymore since the space is small. We have also a number of abandoned and homeless women who have asked for shelter, however, we are looking forward to see that the new home in Talisay will cater for this problem.

c) KINDER: We have 50 children from the ghetto in our kinder. They are taught among others faith, morals, prayer and Christian values that will enrich their future life. In so doing, we also incardinate their families by arranging seminars to teach them how to care for their children and bring them up in a Christian way. We encourage both parents and children to attend the Mass in our apostolate every Sunday. Apart from this, there are a number of activities like sharing, reciting the rosary together as a family.

d) OUTREACH PROGRAM: We have been visiting poor families earlier but we have come to discover that for now we share with them Scriptures readings. We found out that they also need some basics like food and medicines. We are arranging with some friends here to start soliciting for the goods that we will need for food line. However, we want to keep this continuing not simply for a few months. We are planning to do this in Sawang Calero as well as in Talisay. We have had a lot of beggars coming to our Monastery in Talisay. We have always given them what we can. Because of the great need among the poor communities, we have begun an outreach ministry of Dentists who visit every month our apostolate and Monastery to help out the poor who cannot afford going to the hospitals. We do this alternatively, that is if we have mobile clinic this month in Sawang Calero then the following month we have it in Talisay in our Monastery. We are also making contacts to see if we can get people to supply us the necessary medicines we will need to help out with the poor people in the ghettos.

e) APOSTOLATE IN TALISAY: The soil that will be used for the garden is being removed and set aside for future use. God willing the MOU (memorandum of understanding) will soon be finished to be revised by ABOITIZ. It will then be given back to MOP to see if it fits our way of life. The plan of the building is still to be approved and confirmed. After all is done, the construction of the apostolate for elderly men and women will begin.

f) BEGGING: Since the “PRAISE HIM CONCERT” brought a certain impact on the awareness of the people about our life and works, we are now trying to intensify our begging for our apostolate. Let us pray that people will open their hearts to support the work of the Lord.

Let us continue to pray that all we do especially in seeking to build His kingdom here on earth will be accomplished according to His will.

Regards and best wishes from all the Brothers here.

God Bless!

In His service,

Bro. Joseph M.O.P
